Today I needed to pick the zucchini and was determined to get it into the freezer today as well. Just after dawn Carlie Jane and I went out to the garden to pick the squash and zucchini and pull a few weeds before it got too hot. I let Carlie hold one of the yellow squash since I thought she might like to look at it and feel it a little bit. I had about six middle sized zucchini and since they were too many for me to carry I laid them on top of Carlie’s buggy on the vizor part. I do this often when I have too many things to carry. After weeding for a half hour I decided I would quit while Carlie Jane was still happy and take the zucchini in and work on blanching it for freezing. We started across the yard and suddenly the buggy vizor collapsed and all the zucchini rained down on little Carlie’s head! I was horrified! She wasn’t crying but as I looked down all I could see was her little head sticking out of a pile of zucchini and her eyes were huge. “I’ve heard of it raining cats and dogs but zucchini?” I felt awful and took her out and fussed over her for awhile but all I saw was a little red spot on her head. I told John this evening it will be a wonder if we can ever get her to eat zucchini after being traumatized by them so early in her life.
