Uncle Jim’s Trail   |   November 01, 2016

Our first day at Grand Canyon we decided on one of the shorter trails for a hike. We walked out Uncle Jim’s trail to a lookout and followed the loop back. It was a five mile hike and Carlie and Donny did great. Donny had to be carried often but Carlie walked almost the whole way. She kept collecting souvenirs to carry: rocks, walking sticks, bark, and we couldn’t seem to convince her it was only making it harder to carry an arm load of treasures along with her.

Shell fossils can be found everywhere you look around the Grand Canyon.

Carlie did so well and even had a positive attitude the whole while she walked and chatted the whole way. As we reached the end of the trail we stopped to take a picture by the trail head, her first big hike.

Donny was perfectly exhausted by the time we reached the outlook. John put him on his shoulders to ride back and Donny was asleep in no time. When we arrived back the Ranger looked a little alarmed to see John walk out of the woods with Donny hanging around his shoulders.

Carlie loves animals and was so excited to have a group riding mules stop at the outlook.
